NMCS are offering a £25 discount on all their training courses.  Just quote reference mna14 when booking
NMCS offers a flexible quality learning experience through the combination of study material, self-test exercises, tutor marked assessments and tutors’ guidance which ensure confidence in your navigation and seamanship for safe cruising in both power and sailing boats. Navigation is the art and science of finding your position at sea, of moving in the right direction to your destination and of ensuring that you have chosen a safe route and can stay on it. The use of electronic navigation aids are covered wherever appropriate. Seamanship is the knowledge of ships and boats in general, their construction and characteristics, the equipment carried and its use, the environment in which they sail (seas, rivers and estuaries), safety precautions and emergency procedures. Meteorology is the science of the weather - the ally and potential enemy of all small boats. You will need to know sufficient about this subject to interpret and act upon weather forecasts and to prepare your own predictions from your own observations.

We work all the year round. We are proud of our reputation for safety conscious fun and professionalism. Plymouth Sailing School was set up in 1957 and is one of the UK's longest established sea schools. We try hard to accommodate our customers’ requirements - from the complete beginner to the Professional Yachtmaster. Shorebased and Practical courses start and finish at our office and classrooms at Yacht Haven Quay. The yacht practical courses often visit the  “Plymouth Yacht Haven Marina half a mile down river, where the crew can enjoy excellent showers and the 'Bridge' restaurant and bar on the waterfront. Car Parking is free at the boatyard, there is an excellent bus service from Plymouth City Centre (No. 2) and a frequent water taxi from the Mayflower Steps pontoon on the Barbican if you are going to the marina, but it's a long walk from there to the school.

At the MNA National Council meeting in January 2015 the following details were given of new benefits available to CONA Members: 1. Membership of the RAC Motoring organisation is available at very reduced rates.  The top of the range full roadside assistance, recovery etc. including European cover normally costing around £240 is available for £70.  This is a very special offer and more offers are being negotiated for all CONA members. 2. A presentation by UK Holiday Group advised that it had expanded is service to both groups and individuals, with cruise discounts up to 60%. Reports from CONA member groups advised how good the holiday company had been in arranging events and travel for both groups and individuals.  MNA branches please take note and just see how much they would charge your branch for that trip to Liverpool on 25 May. 3. A presentation by Coleman/Ansvar Insurance who specialised in offering insurance to naval associations advised that they were offering significant discounts on most types of insurance including public liability, standards & marine.  Their home insurance offered a 15%  discount which apparently included trustee liability.  The RNA had apparently used that company for years and recommended them.  Further details of exactly what they offered would be sent with the meeting minutes, which would be circulated.  It was suggested, at the meeting, that the CONA website ( should be periodically checked by their administrators in the office in Portsmouth Dockyard.
